Monday Meanderings

It's a public holiday, and on this cool, crisp, misty morning, we decided to take "The Giant" (hubby's bike) and Casper a little further afield, over the other side of the mountain.

Patient, long-suffering hubby :)   I'm not sure if he rues the day he gave me a camera for my birthday a few years ago.
If I take it with us on rides, I stop a few too many times - "ruins the momentum", I hear.
I often tell him that, "I'll leave it at home next time".
But, somehow, it finds its way into my jacket pocket, heh heh.

Secretly though, I think he likes to discuss the highlights of the day as he looks over the photos.

So, here are some pics from our ride this fine morning.

The "Mists of Avalon" come to my mind in these, almost Arthurian, images.

my favourite

I know "the rules" about only taking photos with the sun behind you, and it is a good rule of thumb. But every so often, I like to break the rules.
Sometimes, I am pleasantly surprised.

A lovely beginning to a lovely early winter's day.

    1. Oh, my much thumbed and dog-eared copy will never leave me. Not while I have breath in me :)

This morning, I could almost "see" King Arthur borne away on his final journey, to the Isle of Avalon.
And, the hand of the Lady of the Lake rise from the misty waters to reclaim Excalibur.

      I am such a romantic day-dreamer, methinks :D

    1. Ah yes, Tam. The connections to other times and places can be very strong within us.
I know they are in me :)

I think he is too, just quietly. But I do giggle when he rides off thinking I'm behind him, only to turn and see me snapping away far behind him. He is sooo patient :)
      Big hugs, birthday girl xxx

  7. Absolutely breath-takingly beautiful photos, Vicki! I especially like the one with the heron ( ? ) stretching its wings. I, too, am a fan of the Mists of Avalon; well, all of the Avalon books by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I also love the Merlin trilogy by Mary Stewart, do you know them? How lovely to be able to ride your bike through such beautiful places, and thank you for taking photos and sharing them.

    Blessings,

    Victoria

    1. Thank you Victoria :)
I am happy and grateful when I sometimes arrive "at just the right time" to take photos.

The lovely bird is the Australasian Darter - related to the Cormorant.

And yes, I love those books! Ever since a child, I would devour anything on King Arthur and Merlin. That's probably why I also love the Pre-Raphaelites. Their work is so influenced by literature about the legends.

  8. Your wonderful images of Australia that doesn't look like the Australia most of the rest of the world knows are sublime! I've been guilty of using the phrase 'the REAL Australia' - but there isn't any one image or group of images that epitomises it!! If you posted these on a site and asked readers where they were, I bet most of them WOULDN'T say Australia!! Fantastic!!

    1. Hi Red! Thanks.
Where we live now is an interesting mix of Australia and "somewhere else". Probably due to the fact that the settlers felt the climate here in Victoria was very similar to "back home". So, they landscaped, planted and built accordingly.
I must say, it is vastly different to Western Australia, where I grew up.

One thing's for sure, this is a wonderfully diverse country :)

  10. Ooh, broken rules producing gorgeous Avalonian pics.

These are so lovely. I think my fave is the sun shining through the tree (though that pelican stretching his wings is pretty lovely too).

I'm GLAD you take your camera with you on rides :)
